Valley New School is open to all students provided they complete all parts of the application and fully understand the expectations of this educational model.
Enrollment procedures are as follows:
| 1) |
Fill out an enrollment application form and mail/deliver it to Valley New School. Enrollment application forms for the 2015-2016 lottery will be accepted through February.
|
| 2) |
Attend one of the scheduled VNS public meetings for interested students and parents. (Contact VNS for dates and times.) Each meeting will be held at Valley New School. Attendance at one of these meetings is required to activate a student’s application in the VNS lottery. Parents who are not able to attend any of these meetings should contact the school to make other arrangements to learn about the VNS program. |
| 3) |
Families interested in VNS who live outside of the Appleton Area School District will need to file the necessary paper work for Open Enrollment. Procedures for doing this can be found on the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Website (see link at http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/psctoc.html). |
Openings will be filled by lottery drawing and not on a first-come/first-served basis. Siblings of current and former VNS students and children of VNS staff will receive enrollment preference. Waiting list spots will be determined by lottery drawing as well. Applications that are received after the February deadline are added to the waiting list in the order in which they are received.
Once accepted to VNS, students will be required to submit two letters of recommendation and attend an interview to discuss their learning style and academic goals. It is imperative that both students and parents realize that VNS provides a rigorous educational program within a flexible structure. Success within this model relies strongly on the student’s motivation and on the degree of parental involvement.
VNS values diversity within the student body and does not discriminate in admission or retention of students on the grounds of sex, creed, age, race, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, color, national origin, religion, status with regard to public assistance or any other protected class status defined by local, state or federal law.
